The Garland Shopping Center, is pictured here ca. 1956, covered 10 acres of cotton field at the northwest corner of Miller and Garland Roads. Alternately referred to as Skillern Plaza, the faculty's developers included principles of Skillern's Drug Stores, an anchor tenant. Construction cost for its 26 rental spaces was estimated at $750,000.
