The “ice house” sat on the E. side of 5th St. midway between present State and Main Sts. An unidentified employee is shown facing S. beside a 300-lb. ice block in the late 1930s. Owned by the Home Ice Company, this facility provided ice for insulated boxes in homes and businesses before the proliferation of electric refrigerators.
