Santa Fe 1116

Santa Fe 1116 was one of the line’s 238 ‘Mikado’ type 2-6-2 locomotives (2 leading, 6 driving & 2 trailing wheels) found unstable at high speeds. Thus limited to shorter, slower hauls, they often made Garland stops on 111-mi. runs between Dallas and Paris, TX. Shown soon after it was built in 1902, 1116 leads a double-headed coupling of two locomotives for pulling heavy loads. This engine was scrapped in 1948.
