“Full-service” gasoline station attendants checked and adjusted air, fuel, oil and water levels as customers sat in their automobiles. Waiting longer or leaving their cars, motorists ordered car washes, chassis lubrication, oil changes, tire mountings and minor repairs. At Shugart’s station, pictured ca. 1940, W. J. ‘Bill’ Marshall and Howard A. Shugart and the station’s porter also offered batteries and car radios, installed.
