Tucker Farm Chickens

Chickens raised on this Tucker family farm east of Garland during the early 1920s were probably dosed with Vitamin D, which sustained them during colder, darker winter months and ensured healthier chicks in the spring.  Before this advance, most cooks reserved chicken meat for special occasions and holidays.  With the 1928 Republican Party Platform, presidential candidate Herbert Hoover promised American voters “a chicken in every pot.”
