Colored rotary-dial phones edged out standard black sets for General Telephone Company’s GTE display at Garland’s Industrial Show in April of 1958. More than two dozen colors were eventually offered for nominal price premiums. The Garland Chamber of Commerce sponsored the industrial gathering annually at the Jaycee Community Center in Central Park.
