New home appliances, priced beyond many Depression-era families and unavailable during WWII rationing, helped lead the postwar consumer spending boom. Since surveys indicated that women selected 85% of home appliances, Newman Appliance Co. reserved Garland’s Plaza Theatre ca. ’47 to unveil the new season’s modern wonders available to eager homemakers. Note the Plaza’s “P” grille on loudspeaker box.
