State National Bank’s building at Sixth and present Main Sts. served as a backdrop for officials viewing the Roadable, a ‘flying car’ prototype. Tested by Garland’s Southern Aircraft Co. in 1946, the 3-wheeled vehicle could be fitted with detachable wings. The bank’s traditional columns and scroll pediment disappeared when its space was expanded and front door centered during ‘modernization’ in 1953.
