Hogpen

This hog shipping pen, shown in 1920s , flanked rails between present Avenues B and D. The initials G.C. and S.F. on the coal tender represent Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe, the line which had laid rails in 1886 through what would become Garland. To discourage desertions from its labor crews the Santa Fe promised workers a dipper of whiskey at the end of each day.
